Day 1 | Arrival – Moshi
On Day One of the Tembo Private Tour, having arrived at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will meet with the representatives from Massawe Adventures and transfer to Chanya Lodge (a 50-minute drive from the Airport). You’ll enjoy a comfortable overnight stay ahead of what promises to be a memorable tour.
Day 2 | Local Tour
Day Two provides you with the opportunity to immerse yourself in in the local culture of the surrounding area. After breakfast at Chanya Lodge, you will be met by the Massawe Adventures Tour Guides and driven in a private vehicle to the Materuni Waterfalls (just 15km from Moshi Town). The Local Tour involves around eight kilometres of walking throughout the day (including 300m of incline). This waterfall adventure is a great warm-up for the legs as the tour of Tembo begins.
The Local Tour begins by observing the entire process of coffee making as it goes from seed to mug (an experience to tantalise the senses) After a lunch prepared for you with local produce, you will head off to explore Materuni Waterfalls. Materuni Waterfall has a reputation for wowing visitors with its almighty force and spectacular views. Our Local Tour makes for a perfect day trip to acclimatise to the warmer weather ahead of your safari adventure! Following an exhilarating day soaking up the local area, you will be driven back to the Chanya Lodge where you will spend your second night.
Day 3 | Lake Tarangire
After breakfast at Chanya Lodge, Day Three begins with a morning departure for Tarangire National Park – the sixth largest national park in Tanzania. You will have the opportunity to spend the afternoon spotting wildlife in this quieter wildlife haven featuring a wide variety of habitats. Witness majestic herds of elephants playing and bathing in the Tarangire River – in addition to sightings of Giraffes, Buffalos, Gazelles, and Zebras. Over 545 species of wild animals have been spotted at Tarangire National Park; this is a fantastic chance to spot some of Africa’s most loved wild animals. The lower visitor numbers add to the authentic safari experience, something our guests have been known to love.
Your third night will be spent at The Tarangire Simba Lodge in the heart of Tarangire National Park. Lucky guests have sighted wild animals from the windows of their bedrooms – an immersive wild animal experience not to be missed.
Day 4 | Lake Manyara
Day Four begins with an early morning departure for Lake Manyara National Park with lunch provided on arrival.
Described as a hidden gem of Tanzania, Lake Manyara is an extraordinary location to spot some incredible local wildlife. Famous for tree-climbing lions and with large herds of elephants known to greet tourists in spectacular fashion, Day Four of the Tembo Private Tour will satisfy many of your safari needs!
From swamps and the tranquil lake to the mountainous escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, there are a wealth of habitats to explore. Lake Manyara National Park is located at the base of the East African Rift Valley, parallel to the Gregory Rift. Subsequently, the national park offers spectacular viewing of the escarpment; a magnificent sight to behold.
After the safari, the adventure continues onto the Ngorongoro Crater for an overnight stay at Pembeni Rhotia. Known for tranquillity, you will be able to absorb the day with a comfortable stay here.
Day 5 | Ngorongoro Crater
On the fifth day of our Tembo Private Tour, your day with begin with breakfast, closely followed by departure to the Ngorongoro Crater; one of the seven natural wonders of the world (sometimes known as “Africa’s Garden Of Eden”).
This wonderous site happens to home to a concentrated population of wildlife – containing an estimated 30,000 animals including The Big Five. You will enjoy a full day of safari adventure in this phenomenal natural wonder.
After the safari, you will drive to Rhino Lodge, situated just a few hundred metres from the craters rim, where you will have a cosy overnight stay.
Day 6 | Ngorongoro Crater
With so much more to see, Day Six will commence with a morning walking safari along the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. This on foot safari provides the opportunity to observe some of the smaller animals and birds for a slightly different wildlife spotting experience to what is offered by the rest of the Tembo Private Tour.
In addition, the walking tour offers awe-inspiring views of the crater. Binoculars are a must as you could spot rhinos and buffaloes hundreds of metres below – an alternative view of the animal movements at the Ngorongoro Crater!
After lunch, your drive back to Moshi will commence for a second night in Rhino Lodge.
Day 7 | Lake Eyasi
Day Seven features a trip to Lake Eyasi. Lake Eyasi is home to the hunter-gather ethnic group – Hadzabe Bushmen (they have similar characteristics to the Kalahari Bushmen or San people of Southern Africa).
Well known for their “click” language, this Tanzanian indigenous tribe is probably one of the last that live in true harmony with nature – their extensive knowledge of the natural world virtually unrivalled. You will be given the rare opportunity to hunt alongside Hadzabe Bushmen and experience their way of life.
Following this unique experience, you will be driven back to Chanya Lodge (where the tour began) for an overnight stay just outside of Moshi.
Day 8 | Maasai Cultural Tour
On Day Eight, the penultimate day of this tour, we propose a variety of experiences at West Kilimanjaro to our adventurers. Each experience offers a different opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture, the experiences presenting a unique way to embrace Maasai. After an exploratory day about Maasai, you will spend the night at The Green Side Luxury Cottages – the perfect sanctuary for adventurers in Tanzania.
Adventurers may choose between one of the following options:
Day 9 | Departure
On the final day of the tour, we like to offer a degree of flexibility to ensure that you get the most from your Tanzanian Stay. From optional exploration of the town and souvenir shopping to alternative local experiences depending on your areas of interest, we hope to ensure the final moments in Moshi leave a lasting impression.
